Welcome…
One of My fondest memories is having long talks with my father about art. My Dad was an artist and we had many meetings over coffee that involved discussing the current art trends, the role of art galleries, the philosophy of art and so on. Although we did not agree on a variety of issues that ability to converse about art led to my love and appreciation of the subject and the enjoyment of listening, talking and appreciating the way artists think and work.
My intention is to use this blog as a forum for introducing a variety of subjects all related to art. Whether it is in education, marketing, philosophy, psychology, design, music, dance, literature, poetry, doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we share our opinions, knowledge, and experiences with art and it’s process with each other.
As a practicing artist, I initially used open studios to promote and sell my art. Over the years I experimented with a variety of alternative spaces, traditional galleries, and fairs. Many years later, this marketing experience provided me with enough information to start my own gallery. I’d like to share what I learned with you on this blog.
Fresh out of college, I chose to pursue a teaching credential rather then an MFA because I felt that teaching art in elementary and secondary schools encouraged the appreciation and understanding of art and culture thereby encouraging a future generation of artists. Next, my arts advocacy expanded to local communities. Serving on a variety of non-profit boards helped me understand the importance of public policy, change and patience. Then holding a long-standing commissioner seat on my local arts and culture commission gave me the knowledge and experience needed for applying for public art projects and understanding the city process.
My experiences are about making a creative life for myself. I invite you to share what inspires, motivates and sustains you in art and how your experiences with art make your life more creative.
Thanks, Pam

Pam, I’m so sorry to hear that your gallery closed! The art presence on Stockton Avenue was such a wonderful boon for El Cerrito, particularly on the Stockton Stroll evenings. Thanks for contributing so much to El Cerrito and best of luck with the blog and whatever other new endeavors you come up with. I’ll look forward to seeing what you do with the blog. Are you going to link it to Facebook and/or Linkedin so we can “like” or “follow” it?
Best Wishes, Barbara
THX that’s a great aenwsr!
Thanks, Barbara. I will miss the Stockton Ave Art Strolls. The idea with the blog is to connect to Facebook and Linkedin and so forth. This is just a start…and a “work in progress.” So keep checking back for more. Pam
Going to put this artilce to good use now.
Lillian,
Great!
There will be another post with more helpful suggestions next week.

I’ve been “going through changes” recently, starting with realizing that my video-film work really wasn’t as professional as I’d like and continuing on through realizing my relationship with the people, and yes, the world, around me was not really what I wanted. I’ve been spending the past few months readjusting myself. It’s a process that I haven’t yet finished, but I can see a difference. I take myself and my work more seriously, and put more thought into things before launching myself into action. Some of this has been quite painful, but I think I’m on the right track to realizing some new goals.
I always considered your film work professional. I can understand though, your wanting to improve your craft. Isn’t that always the way? Artists need to move on, explore, try new techniques and test new ideas.
In that exploration they find something to add to what they have already been doing. It’ s in this process they refine their original vision. Pam
